NGINX

The web server running 40% of the internet.

NGINX as reverse proxy, load balancer, SSL terminator, and static file server for production deployments where performance, reliability, and fine-grained traffic control are requirements.

Our Take

Why we use NGINX

NGINX handles 50,000 concurrent connections on commodity hardware. As a reverse proxy, it terminates SSL, adds security headers, handles rate limiting, and routes traffic to application servers — removing these concerns from application code. Every production deployment we build uses NGINX in front of application servers.

What We Build With It

Production web server configuration
Reverse proxy and load balancing
SSL termination and certificate management
Static file serving and CDN integration
Rate limiting and DDoS basic protection

Honest Assessment

When NGINX is the right choice. And when it is not.

Strengths

Exceptional performance at high concurrency
Event-driven architecture — no thread-per-connection overhead
Mature, battle-tested configuration
Free and open source
Can serve static files faster than any application server

Limitations

Configuration syntax has a learning curve
Dynamic reconfiguration requires reload or NGINX Plus
Module compilation required for some features
Debugging complex configurations is difficult
